Ants are pests you can find living inside your home all year round. They are extremely hardy and live in large colonies. If they are not dealt with correctly it can feel like nothing will get rid of them. Using store-bought ant sprays will often make the ants go away for a few days or weeks but they will keep coming back. These products do not affect the ant colony or nest itself. They only kill the ants inside your home. The nests are often located outside and if none of those ants get treated then the queen that lives inside the nest will continue hatching more ants. Our services focus primarily on the outside of the home unless it's winter. During our service, we treat around the foundation, decks, patios, downspouts, and trees that touch home. As the ants cross over the treated areas they will live long enough to carry the product back to their nests. Once inside it quickly spreads making its way to the queen. This process takes 30 days to exterminate 100% of the colony and comes with a 1-year warranty if the ants ever return.
The two most common ants in Minnesota are pavement ants and carpenter ants. Pavement ants are also known as sugar and grease ants. These ants can be spotted nesting under sidewalks, driveways, patios, and cement slabs. Their nests are often marked with circular piles of sand.
Carpenter ants get their name from nesting inside water-damaged or rotting wood. This wood makes it easier for the ants to chew tunnels and galleries through it. They do not eat and digest the wood like termites. This is why you can find piles of frass or sawdust that they spit out near one of their nesting sites.
